PHA has worked with various 1D, 2D and 3D modelling packages since graduating with a mathematics degree in 2005. Has has also been giving training and presented workshops in the use of modelling software for a number of years. The primary modelling environment for PHA is ISIS-TUFLOW, although he uses ISIS only modelling extensively for flood forecasting purposes and TUFLOW only modelling in coastal environment. ISIS-TUFLOW offers that strong combination of 1D modelling with all the structures ISIS has available with 2D modelling for the floodplains and urban environments; giving better representations of flow routes and flood propagation to aid with understanding hazard and determining preventative measures. Recently PHA has had the privilege of delving into the 3D world of OpenFOAM for some more serious structural analysis of a proposed bridge. This included determining the pressures exerted across the bridge by a range of fluvial events and the impact on the scour regime of the channel that changing the bridge configuration can have. A very interesting task, but not a modelling technique than can yet be used for many applications.
