A TUFLOW simulation is comprised of a grid, feature coverages, and model parameters. SMS allows for the creation of multiple simulations, each of which includes links to these items. The use of links allows these items to be shared between multiple simulations. A simulation also stores the model parameters used by TUFLOW.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Our new simulation will be very similar to our existing simulation. Rather than create a new simulation and copy all of the shared information, we will make a copy of the simulation and change only the things that will be different. To do this:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;ol&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;In the project explorer, right click on the TUFLOW simulation M01_5m_002 and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Duplicate&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in the menu that appears.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Change the name of the new simulation to M02_5m_001.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Links to the geometric objects such as grids and coverages are shared through geometry components as explained in the TUFLOW 2D tutorial. For this module, we will create a copy of the geometry component from previous module and add new components. Doing this will keep the model from module01 unchanged. &lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Right click on the geometric component named &amp;#039;&amp;#039;5m geo&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Duplicate&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Change the name of the new geometric component to be &amp;#039;&amp;#039;5m geo Culvert&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Drag and drop the “Culvert_BC” coverage into this new geometry component (* Note: If you chose [[Tute_M02_SMS_1d2d_Link_Archive#Alternate_3:_Point_object_in_1d_nwk_type_layer|Alternate 3]] while defining &amp;#039;&amp;#039;1D2D Linkage&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in all three culverts, then you will not have &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Culvert_BC&amp;#039;&amp;#039; coverage and you don&amp;#039;t have to drage anything).&lt;br /&gt;

We need to add the items which will be used in the simulation. These items include the geometry component and coverages. Coverages already in the geometry component do not need to be added to the simulation.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Under Simulation &amp;#039;&amp;#039;M02_5m_001&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, right click and delete &amp;#039;&amp;#039;5m geo&amp;#039;&amp;#039; geometric component which came from Module01.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Drag &amp;#039;&amp;#039;5m geo Culvert&amp;#039;&amp;#039; geometric component into this simulation&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Also drag the coverages &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Culverts&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Culvert_Connections&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (This coverage will not be available if you didn&amp;#039;t use [[Tute_M02_SMS_1d2d_Link_Archive#Alternate_2:_Line_object_in_2d_bc_type_layer|Alternate 2]] while defining &amp;#039;&amp;#039;1D2D Linkage&amp;#039;&amp;#039;).&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

The TUFLOW 2D model parameters were set up previously in the 2D TUFLOW tutorial. In addition to these normal model parameters (2D), we need to specify parameters specifically for the 1D portion of the model.&lt;br /&gt;

&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Right click again on the M02_5m_001 simulation and select &amp;#039;&amp;#039;1D Control&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;In the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;General&amp;#039;&amp;#039; tab change the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Timestep&amp;#039;&amp;#039; to &amp;quot;1.5&amp;quot; seconds, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Output interval&amp;#039;&amp;#039; to &amp;quot;180&amp;quot; seconds and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Initial Water Level&amp;#039;&amp;#039; to &amp;quot;0&amp;quot;.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;In the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Network&amp;#039;&amp;#039; tab, change the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Depth limit factor&amp;#039;&amp;#039; to &amp;quot;10.0&amp;quot;. This allows water in the channels to be up to five times deeper than the depth of the channel before halting due to a detected instability.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;li&amp;gt;Click OK to close the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Control 1D&amp;#039;&amp;#039; dialog.&amp;lt;/li&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
