Introduction

QGIS is used to view the cumulative rainfall, rainfall rate and material rainfall losses with the TUFLOW Viewer. For viewing of the 2D map results, see Module 1.

Method

Inspect cumulative rainfall, rainfall rate and loss outputs:

  1. Open the Time Series results, by either:
  2. Within the QGIS Browser Panel drag the following layers into the QGIS workspace,
    • M06_5m_002_PLOT_L
    • M06_5m_002_PLOT_P
Or drag and drop the M06_5m_002.tpc from the Module_06\TUFLOW\results\plot folder > to select the time series output results.
  3. Select the M06_5m_002_PLOT_L file in the Layers panel and click on the 'TUFLOW Viewer Plot Window' icon. The plot widget will open.
  4. In the 'Layer Styling' panel, select 'Water Level' in the 'Datasets' tab and scroll through output times to review flood extent from the rain on grid model.
  5. One additional output type appears in the Result Type panel:
    • Cum. Mat. Loss: the total rainfall losses applied as initial and continuing losses specified in the materials file.
  6. Use the Plot Time Series tool to see the cumulative material loss time series. Notice the variation due to the assigned materials ID:

  7. Use the Plot Time Series tool to see the time series of the cumulative rainfall, rainfall rate and losses at a point. Notice the results vary spatially due to the 2d_rf polygons and 2d_mat regions:

Conclusion

  • The cumulative rainfall, rainfall rate and rainfall material losses derived from rainfall polygons were inspected with the TUFLOW Viewer.
  • For further functionality, see TUFLOW Viewer 2 documentation.
