Tutorial M10 001 Results QGIS TUFLOW Viewer V2
Introduction
QGIS is used to view the dam break scenario via the bathymetry (the 'dynamic bed levels') and water depth with the TUFLOW Viewer V2. For viewing of the 2D map results, see Module 1.
Method
Inspect bathymetry (dynamic bed elevation) and water depth outputs:
- Open the Map Outputs results, either:
- Within the QGIS Browser Panel drag the following layer into the QGIS workspace, or
- Module_10\TUFLOW\results\M10_5m_001.xmdf > loads the map output
- In File Explorer, navigate to the file above and drag and drop it into the QGIS workspace.
- In the Layers panel, select M10_5m_001. Then in the Layer Styling panel, select the 'Bathymetry' output type in the 'Datasets' tab. It shows elevations at cell corners (ZH points) over time based in the variable geometry (2d_vzsh).
- Click on the 'TUFLOW Viewer Plot Window'
icon. The plot widget will open.
- Use the Cross Section Plot tool to plot the 'bed elevation' and 'dynamic bed elevation' (elevation at the beginning of the simulation) at the location of the dam break. The dam break begins at 1 hour and takes 15 minutes to fully develop:
- In the Layers panel, select M10_5m_001. Then select the 'Depth' output type in the 'Datasets' tab. Use the Time Series Plot tool to see the time series of the 'dynamic bed level' and 'water level' at the location of the dam break, whilst viewing the depth result type. Due to the IWL, water is within the dam at the beginning of the simulation
Conclusion
- A cross section of the dam wall was inspected showing the bathymetry changing over time using TUFLOW Viewer V2.
- Time series of bathymetry and water level were inspected at the location of the dam break.
- For further functionality, see TUFLOW Viewer documentation.
