Water Level Lines

Water Level Line (WLL) are used to display 1D results in map outputs. WLL do not change 1D hydraulic computations and are only used to display 1D results in plan (2D) formats. For more information on WLL, refer to the TUFLOW Manual:

  1. Open the Water_Level_Lines.shp layer from the Module_Data\Module_01\gis folder.
  2. Save as 1d_x1d_WLL_FMT_M01_001_L.shp within the FMT_M01\TUFLOW\model\gis folder. The _x1d_ in the name flags that the Water Level Lines will be linked to an external 1D network, in this case a Flood Modeller network, rather than a 1D ESTRY network.
  3. The 1d_wll layer must be digitised perpendicular to the flow direction and from left to right looking downstream. An attribute of '2.5' is specified for all lines as a minimum distance interval along the WLL to generate triangulation points.

  4. When using 1D Water Level Lines to display 1D map outputs from a Flood Modeller network, a channel line within a 1d_x1d GIS layer must also be digitised. A pre-digitised channel line for the network has been provided in the Module_Data folder. Open the Flood_Modeller_Network.shp layer from the Module_Data\Module_01\gis folder.
  5. Save as 1d_x1d_FMT_M01_nwk_001_L.shp within the FMT_M01\TUFLOW\model\gis folder.
  6. Open the GIS layer within QGIS.
