Franciscus joined Opus in May 2008 as a Senior Hydraulic Engineer in the Rivers & Coastal Engineering Work Group. His recent experience includes modelling and analysing piped networks, open channels, hydraulic structures, and waves generated in harbours as well as two-dimensional computational modelling of flows over floodplains. Franciscus studied Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury and later at the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) where he specialized in Hydrologic Models, Hydrology, Integrated and Operational Water Management, Water Management in Rural Areas, Irrigation and Distributed Database Systems. Previously Franciscus worked at Upper Hutt City Council as an Asset Manager of the city’s stormwater system.

  • Hydraulic Engineering, Modelling, Pipe Design: Familiar with Mike11, Mike21, MikeUrban, MikeFlood, WaterRIDE Flood Manager, TUFLOW, Hytran, InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and SWAN. Carried out various concept designs for stormwater system upgrades. Also reviewed detailed culvert and pipe network designs by others.
  • GIS: Familiar with ESRI ARCView and ESRI ArcMap. This includes linking this with other data sources such as Hansen, Mike11 and MikeUrban.
  • Programming: Good understanding of Visual Basic and Pascal. Programmed various macros in MS Excel, MS Access and MS Word.
  • Database Design: Excellent understanding of the principles of database design. Designed a number of different databases for specific purposes at UHCC.
  • Languages: English, Dutch (mother tongue), French (basic oral), German (basic oral)
