I am interested in all facets of Marine Science and possess key skills in Coastal Surveying. I have a keen interest in Hydrography and Marine Renewables. I have a Masters in Coastal Engineering and a Bachelors of Science with Honours in Marine Geography. My career aspiration is to have a fulfilling career in academia focussing on undertaking pioneering research in coastal and marine science.
I joined Waterman Group Plc in July 2008 as a Graduate Engineer working in the Cardiff Office. I have nearly 3 years experience in hydrology and flood risk analysis, using FEH hydrological modelling techniques and 1D, 2D hydraulic modelling software, namely HEC-RAS and TUFLOW packages. I have derived many practical and appropriately managed flood mitigation solutions to enable the development of difficult sites.
I have been responsible for the preparation of numerous Flood Consequences/Risk Assessments for the Welsh Assembly, Local Authorities and a multitude of private developers. In doing so, I have worked closely with the Environment Agency and Local Planning Authorities, and have a detailed knowledge and understanding of current planning guidance for England and Wales in PPS 25 and TAN 15 respectively.
I have also been responsible for the completion of Traffic Impact Assessments, including traffic modelling using ARCADY, PICADY, TRICS and TEMPRO. I have a detailed knowledge and understanding of current planning guidance in TAN 18.
I previously worked at HR Wallingford as part of an optional Year in Industry during my undergraduate studies at Cardiff University where I worked on a number of commercial projects as a physical coastal hydraulic modeller. During my time at HR Wallingford, I developed a sound understanding of the principles of Coastal Engineering by constructing and testing numerous physical models, and was able to apply this knowledge during my Masters degree in Coastal Enigneering. During my Masters in Coastal Engineering, I completed a dissertation researching the protective capabilities of seawalls. A fundamental aspect of this dissertation was the application of the MIKE 21 hydraulic modelling software.
