TUFLOW 1D Channels and Hydraulic Structures: Difference between revisions

Line 202:
A skew angle of 0 means the cross section is aligned with the flow. As the angle increases, the effective width is reduced. For example, a skew of 60 degrees results results in a 50% reduction (as cos(60) = 0.5). While this does reduce the effective width of the structure, it isn’t expected to see the same reduction to conveyance as conveyance depends on the Manning’s n value, flow area and hydraulic radius.

== Do the calculations changediffer if I specify multiple culverts using the Number_of attribute, even if the total dimensions are the same as a single culvert? ==
Yes. When using the Number_of attribute, TUFLOW/ESTRY calculates hydraulic behaviour based on the dimensions of each individual barrel, not the total combined width. This means that a single 18 m wide × 1.2 m high culvert will behave differently to ten 1.8 m wide × 1.2 m high culverts, even though the total width is the same.
